She emphasized on the need for proper care of the adolescent girls specially during the menstrual period.
Interacting with girls of the college, she highlighted the initiatives taken by the Higher Education Department for health hygiene, education and sports for the college girls, specially of the minority Muslim girls in Manipur.
Presenting the inaugural address, the Principal of the College Dr Md Raheijuddin Sheikh reiterated that Manipur is considered as the 'Power House' of sports yet the participation of the Muslims, more particularly, of the women is very few.
The Manipuri Muslim women known as 'Meitei-Pangal Women' are also equally smart or even smarter than women of other communities in sports but they cannot expose their potential talents because of many factors.
However, during the last five years some girls of the community have come up in various fields of sports even in the martial arts, he added.
He continued that the seminar will focus on the reasons why Muslim girls are responding very less in sports and suggest possible measures to be taken up in the near future for upliftment of women in sports before it is too late.
He also said that the Manipuri Muslim women have been actively participating in most of the economic activities as their male counterparts: a unique culture which is not seen in the rest of the world where women are confined in the four walls under the purdah system.
The seminar is expected to throw light on this issue in particular and various other sub-themes in general within the broad theme "Role of Women in Sports", he said.
The seminar was divided into two sessions where the first session was chaired by the former Chairperson of the Manipur State Minorities Commission Dr Burhanuddin while the second session was chaired by the former Principal Lilong Haoreibi College Dr K Kunjani Devi.
Other topics of the technical sessions include 'Muslim Women in Sports: Past, Present & Future' by Dr Syed Ahmed, Asst Professor, Dhanamanjuri University; 'Empowering Women Through Sports' by Dr Ashalata Maisnam, Asst Professor, Lilong Haoreibi College; 'Sports in Manipuri Muslim Society' by S M Sheikh, an eminent writer and researcher; 'Educational Status of Manipuri Muslim Women and Participation in Sports' by Dr Feroja Syed, Asst Professor, Modern College; 'Manipuri Women in Sports: Challenges & Prospects' by N Bino Devi, Asst Professor, Lilong Haoreibi College; 'From Pomelo to the Football: A Case Study of Fatima Begum, a Pioneer in Manipuri Women Football' by Dr Kh Sapana, Assistant Professor, Moreh College and 'Scheduled Caste Women in Sports with special reference to Kakching District, Manipur' by Dr Ng Sapana Devi, Assistant Professor, Lilong Haoreibi College.
