Imphal, November 12 2022:
Amid the growing dissent over overlapping of inter district boundaries, local residents of Kadangband in Imphal West district, under the aegis of Singda Naharol Yaipha Thouni Kanglup, Singda Kadangband organised a sit-in protest on Saturday denouncing registration of a private school in Kadangband with 'Kangpokpi district' tag.
According to club president Bedajit Hodam, Kadangband is a revenue village in Imphal West district as per Manipur Darbar resolution number A20/7/1932 for valley village reserved forest and MLR&LR Act.
Interestingly, some new settlers of a certain community in the village are trying to add 'Kangpokpi district' tag in the village that lies within the jurisdiction of Imphal West.
A private school in the village was found registered with the address as SADAR Hill Region, Kangpokpi district, he said.
The matter came to light when a student of the school was selected for admission to Navodaya Vidyalaya only to be rejected because the school was found registered with its address in Kangpokpi district, he said and demanded the government to investigate the matter and take up appropriate actions.
He also accused armed cadres of SoO groups threatening residents in foothill villages to annex Imphal West villages into Kangpokpi district while drawing attention of the government in this regard.
He also demanded the government to set up district boundary commission and clearly define the inter-district boundaries to prevent any future disputes.
