131st anniversary of Anglo Manipuri War 1891 observed

ustice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War 1891 (Justice Committee 1891), Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak and Sanakhya Sengoisana Memorial Committee of Ningthemcha Ningsing Lup on Wednesday jointly observed the 131st anniversary of Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 at Thoubal Athokpam.
It may be noted that the first battlefield of Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 was fought at Thoubal Athokpam.
Martyrs of the war, namely Sanakhya Yaiskullakpa, Sanakhya Sengoisana and many other freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifice at the battlefield of Thoubal Athokpam against British soldiers were honoured with floral tributes at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, H Ibotombi, chief consultant, Justice Committee 1891, recalled the events of Anglo Manipuri War 1891.He shared that Sanakhya Yaiskullakpa and Sanakhya Sengoisana along with 20 other Manipuri fighters lost their lives in the battlefield of Thoubal Athokpam.
H Ibotombi further appealed to the State Government to take up steps to build a memorial site at Thoubal Athokpam to honour the freedom fighters.
The event was also attended by families of the martyrs, Yumnam Dillipkumar, chairman, Justice Committee 1891, T Birjit, convener, Iboyaima Khuman, advisor, Ningthemcha Ningshing Lup, members of IPSA, ACOAM LUP, PANDAM, Kanglamei, Thoubal Apunba Lup, KIL, IPAK, CLK, KSA and students.
