Discourse on "Eyong Phee Amasung Manipuri Khunai' held

Manipur University Students' Union has conducted a two day academic discourse on "Eyong Phee Amasung Manipuri Khunai" in collaboration with AIMS, AMSU, DESAM, KSA, MSF and SUK at MIMS Auditorium on April 5 and 6 .
As per a statement, the event was moderated by Professor Paonam Gunihdro, VC, Manipur University of Culture.
The panelists included Mutua Bahadur, cultural activist.
Dr N Sanatomba, Assistant Professor, Department of Manipuri.
MU; S Bhuboi, VP, Manipur Apex Handloom Weaver and Handicraft Artisan CS Ltd; Dr Chinglen Maisnam, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, MU; Robert Naorem, fashion entrepreneur and Dr Ayekpam Rajmani, Professor Department of Commerce, MU.
During the course of the two day academic discourse several recommendations were made.
The panelists recommended that new policy/programs be implemented for the welfare of handloom weavers.
In order to encourage 'Economic Nationalism', the panelists called for the use of "Eyong Phee" as uniforms in schools/colleges/educational institutions and suggested that the same could be introduced in private institutions like hospitals and so on.
Further, they recommended that appeals should be made for acquiring GI Tags and patents of many "Eyong Phee" varieties/designs.
Lastly, the panel called for mass patronage of "Eyong Phee" from the people as well as the State Government.
