Superplate cricket: MPSC steamroll SDC by 144 runs to qualify for semifinals

MPSC (Manipur Central Jail) ended their league stage campaign with a massive 144-run win over SDC (Laipham Khunou) to earn a semifinal spot in the MNCA Superplate Tournament at Langthabal Public Ground on Wednesday.
The result saw MPSC finish Group B runners-up with 10 points from 7 league matches.
MPSC and RCA were level on points but the former leapfrogged the latter into the last four by virtue of a better NRR (1.293) .
Put in to bat, MPSC set up a 204-run target for their opponents.
In the innings, Gelson Thoudam top-scored for his side with a fine knock of 54, followed by Soubam Kingson (42), Sarangthem Shangker (31) and Chingangbam Lokeshwor (17) .
Thangboy Doungel turned out to be the chief destroyer for SDC.
He bowled 8 overs to scalp 5 wickets as Naoshekpam Kiran, Maibam Suraj and Paonam Satyajit took one each.
MPSC wiped out SDC's batting lineup in 30.5 overs.
The latter could only muster 59 runs as Tarun Khagokpam (12) was the only batter who scored in double digits for SDC.
Maibam Bijoykumar led the MPSC bowling attack, claiming 4 wickets.
On the other hand, Oinam Rojit and Potsangbam Bonem picked 2 wickets each, with Soubam Kingson and Sarangthem Shangker getting one apiece in their emphatic victory that propelled them to the last four.
With his haul of 4 wickets, Maibam Bijoykumar was adjudged man of the match.
In an inconsequential Group A match, sixth-placed PSC (Khuyathong) defeated relegated THAU (Thangmeiband) by 44 runs.
PSC scored 178/8 and then bowled out their opponents for 134 in 30.1 overs.
Thokchom Homenjit (55) and Diamond (45) were the main run-getters for PSC in their innings before Lama-bam Martin, who claimed 4 wickets, led the PSC attack coupled with 2 wickets each by L Prasantajit, M Vicky and N Ranjan to help their side seal the victory.
Lamabam Martin was named man of the match.
