Imphal, April 06 2022:
Two officials of Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL), including a retiree, who were arrested on corruption charges have been remanded in police custody till April 8 by the Special Judge (Lokayukta) Court on Wednesday.
Both the accused, A Rajendra and O Yaiskul were produced before the Court by the police with a prayer for their further remand till April 11 .
Special public prosecutor (SPP) told the Court that both have not been able to give the exact reasons for the shortcomings in the work undertaken by them.
On top of this, they are not cooperating with the police investigation which has resulted in delay in effecting seizure of many documents relevant to the case.
Hence, the SSP urged the Court for continuation of their police custody remand period.
On the other hand, the defence counsel claimed that there are many lapses in the case from the registration of FIR to the investigation process.
Even if the accused cannot present some documents, the police can acquire them through other means.
It should also be noted that both of them are senior citizens who are suffering from various diseases and need proper medical treatment, their defence counsel argued.
After hearing both sides, the Special Judge decided to extend the remand period of the accused in police custody till April 8 and ordered that the investigation officer of the case should present both to a competent medical authority for health check up and submit a copy of the medical report to the Court.
