Drugs worth over Rs 14 crore seized

Drugs (Brown Sugar) worth over Rs 14 crore were seized from eight individuals at Tengnoupal along Imphal-Moreh highway and Moreh township in four separate cases yesterday and today, sources informed.
On checking a car (i-20) at their Tengnoupal checkpost at around 1 pm yesterday, Tengnoupal Police detected 52 soap cases weighing 2.121 Kg .
The soap cases were found to be containing Brown Sugar worth Rs 4,24,20,000 .
The car was being driven by one W Mathuhema (21) s/o Wilson of Laii village, Senapati district.
In the second case, Tengnoupal Police and troops of 20 Assam Rifles carried out a joint operation.
In the course of the operation, the security forces halted one car (Renault Duster) and detained H Wilson (22) s/o K Huimi of Laii village, Senapati district and Solomon (31) s/o Mekho of Laii village, Senapati district at around 2.30 pm yesterday.
55 soap cases containing 2.293 Kg of Brown Sugar were seized from their possession.
The monetary value of the drugs seized from the two is said to be around Rs 4,58,60,000 .
Further, Tengnoupal Police managed to seize another 53 soap cases weighing 2.194 Kg from the possession of one Peter Hemkhomang Baite (26) s/ o Anthony Jamhol Baite of Moreh Ward No 1, Unit 1 at around 4 pm yesterday.
The 53 soap cases contained Brown Sugar worth Rs 4,38,80,00 .
Peter Hemkhomang Baite was travelling in a car (Maruti Brezza) when he was arrested by police along with the contraband drugs.
The total value of the drugs seized from the four individuals is found to be approximately Rs 13,21,60,000 after calculation as per NCB norms.
Three different FIRs have been registered at Tengnoupal police station in connection with the seizure of the three drug consignments.
It was also reported that a cash reward has been handed over to the police team who successfully seized the drug consignments and arrested the four drug smugglers.
On the other hand, a combined team of Moreh police and 43 Assam Rifles seized brown sugar worth Rs 1.44 crore in the international market today at around 3.30 pm.
The combined team halted a Tata Sumo coming from Moreh towards Imphal at Chikim village check-post near Ima Kondong Lairembi and detained three individuals who were identified as Md Sahidul Islam (21), s/o Md Kanaluddin Islam; Ajimuddin Khan (22), s/o Abdul Salam Khan and Abdul Halim (22), s/0 Karim Ali.
They are residents of Karimganj district of Assam.
The vehicle they were travelling in was found carrying 684 grams of brown sugar concealed in 60 soap cases.
At the revelation of the trio, a fourth person identified as Peter Khambilian (22) s/o (late) Nengsuamang Zou of Moreh who sold them the contraband was also arrested.
The arrested individuals along with the vehicle and the seized contraband have been handed over to Moreh police station for further legal action.
