Imphal, April 06 2022:
Protesting against the order issued by the government on Tuesday prohibiting parking of vehicles in Paona Bazar, shopkeepers of the market shut their businesses on Wednesday.
The shopkeepers have also resolved to continue the closure until the government withdraws the order.
As the shopkeepers began their protest from Wednesday 3pm onwards, many shoppers faced inconveniences.
Personnel of City Police station took up necessary security measures to prevent any unwanted incidents from happening.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, a shopkeeper named Soibam Shyam conveyed that the shopkeepers in Paona Bazar cannot accept the government's order of barring parking of vehicles in the market.
If the government is firm on its stand on the matter, it should arrange some kind of alternative like that in Thangal Bazar, wherein the parking space has been set up over slab-covered Naga River.
Until the said arrangement is made, people should be allowed to'park their vehicles in Paona Bazar, Shyam insisted.
Later, a meeting of the shopkeepers in Paona Bazar was held wherein several resolutions were adopted.
The resolutions include demand for a similar parking set up as that of Thangal Bazar; re-implementing the oneway traffic rule along Paona Bazar, with the entry point from Keishampat direction; closure of all businesses in the market until the order is withdrawn/modified, and any business found opened against the collective decision will be solely responsible for any action taken against them.
