Trucks, tankers remain stranded

Imphal, July 28 2026: Several loaded and empty trucks, as well as fuel tankers, remain stranded along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway.

Moreover, no loaded tankers and trucks could make the journey from Jiribam to Imphal today due to the unavailability of security escorts.

It was reported that around 1000 loaded trucks and tankers bound for Imphal are currently strand-ed in Jiribam and Assam.

It is reported that loaded trucks and fuel tankers, escorted by two security convoys, left Jiribam for Imphal on Monday and reached Noney this evening.

However, it remains uncertain whether the vehicles will be able to reach Imphal tomorrow.

Vehicular movement along the Imphal-Jiribam highway was disrupted after a portion of the road caved in between the Noney police station and the Noney Assam Rifles post on the intervening night of July 26 and 27 .

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is currently carrying out restoration work at the affected site.

As loaded vehicles are unable to navigate the sunken stretch, heavy machinery are being used to assist the loaded vehicles in crossing the affected section.

Even as some loaded vehicles have managed to cross the affected stretch, many others remain stranded.

A well-placed source said that the loaded vehicles may not be able to reach Imphal tomorrow.

Meanwhile, empty trucks and tankers that left Imphal for Jiribam today with two security convoys began crossing the caved-in portion of the road at Noney this evening.

It remains uncertain when these vehicles will reach Jiribam.

While empty trucks from Imphal used to reach Jiribam on the same day in the recent past, the journey now takes two to three days due to the poor condition of the highway.
