Imphal, January 31 2024: KCC-Kongba opened their Group B campaign in the 11th Manipur Veteran T20 Cricket Tournament with a slender 10-run victory against ESU-Wangkhei this morning here at Langthabal Public Ground.

KCC amassed a moderate total of 138 for all wickets down in 19.5 overs and held ESU to 128/7 for the narrow victory today on the back of Bonny's exemplary bowling performance.

KCC's Sonjoy 36, Tomba 38, Devkanta 14 and Bishorjit 12* added double digit runs before they were bundled out for a modest total 138 runs with Rajesh (3/25 in 4 overs), Banikanta (3/22 in 3.5 overs) and Robin (2/25 in 4 overs) sharing a bulk of 8 crucial wickets.

Bonny of KCC however exerted early pressure by removing four key wickets and helped throttle the ESU chase and the latter team ended up gathering 128 for 7 wickets despite late fireworks from Banikanta 23 not out and H Premananda 19 not out.

Iqbal and Sonjoy claimed one wicket apiece for KCC.

Bonny of KCC who led the bowling attack was adjudged man of the match.

In a Group A match staged later, Boicha scored 47 runs and picked three wickets to hand YPHU-Lalambung Makhong a comfortable 78 run victory over YCC, Wangkhei.

Boiton scored an unbeaten 67 off 60 deliveries and Boicha scored a 21-ball 47 to help YPHU post a commanding total of 182 runs for three wickets after electing to bat first.

Surjit was also unbeaten on 24 in 15 balls as Everest of YCC picked two wickets and Jayadev fetched the other wicket.

Boicha (3/20 in 4 overs) and Romio (2/13 in 3 overs) then led the YPHU attack to bowl out YCC for 104 runs in 18.3 overs.

Dularva, Boiton, Luckyboy and Alai also claimed a wicket apiece for YPHU as Sanjit 22, Gobin 18, Bindeshwor 16, Jayadev 13 and Bidur 10 struggled to keep the YCC chase alive.

Boiton who hit a half century and picked a wicket was adjudged man of the match.

UCC-Blue will play SHADOW-Thangmeiband in a Group D match tomorrow.
