Man sentenced to 14 years RI

Imphal, January 31 2024:
The Fast Track Court of Additional Session Judge for Crime Against Women Manipur has sent a 36 year old man convicted of raping two minors to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, today.
Maimom Abo, s/o (L) Kalamu of Sanjenbam Makha Leikai, was convicted by the same Court on January 8 for defiling the minors somewhere in Imphal West in 2008 .
The convict who is lodged in Manipur Central Jail at Sajiwa was produced before the Court for sentence hearing today.
The Court heard Special PP Angom Sushila and the defence counsel in length.
The Special PP submitted that the crime committed by the convict was heinous and prayed for maximum punishment while the defence course prayed for minimum punishment and to set off the period of time which the convict had spent during the trial and investigation of the case.
The Court after hearing the submission of the Special PP and the defence counsel sentenced the convict to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment but set off the 206 days which the convict had spent in investigation and trial of the case.
