Imphal, January 31 2024:
The Joint Action Committees (JACs) formed in connection with the killing of two village volun-teers Nongthombam Michael and Maisnam Khaba alias Ibomcha have reached an understanding with the State Government.
With this development, the final rites of the two who died yesterday following an attack launched by Kuki militants will be performed at Koutruk near the site where the two lost their lives.
It may be noted that a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh earlier by the JAC against the brutal killing of Nongthombam Michael had highlighted the resolutions adopted by the JAC and called for necessary action.
The JAC had urged the State Government to provide ex-gratia and a Government job to one of the family members, apprehend those involved in the brutal murder and punish them as per the law of the land and provide necessary training to the volunteers who come forward to defend their life, liberty and property due to the inability of the State to fully protect the life, liberty and property of its people.
The JAC also asserted that the body of the deceased will not be claimed from the morgue for the final rites until their demands are met.
In addition, the JAC had urged the Government to erect a memorial at Koutruk in honour of the two fallen village volunteers.
Separately, the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Maisnam Khaba from Sagoltongba Mamang Leikai had vehemently condemned the kil- ling and adopted eight resolutions during a public meet- ing held at Recent Higher Secondary School ground, Sagoltongba at 11.30 am today.
The JAC was also formed at the same meeting which was attended by CSOs, Meira Paibis and representatives of local clubs.
Pertinent among the resolutions are granting ex-gratia to the grieving family and a suitable Government job to one of the family members, apprehending the perpetrators within 48 hours and awarding appropriate punishment to them, abrogation of SoO with Kuki militants, adequate deployment of State security forces along the peripheral areas, enforcement of NRC in Manipur and immediate withdrawal of 22 Assam Rifles.
Further, the JAC also resolved to not claim the body of the deceased and launch agitations until the State Government fulfils their demands.
