Imphal, January 31 2024:
Charging both state and Central governments of prioritising the upcoming Lok Sabha election rather than taking steps to bring solution to the nearly nine months crisis and mitigate suffering of the people, Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT), Manipur has stated that time has come for the people to teach a befitting lesson to the negligent government.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, LIMIT president Malem Thongam said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to the people of Manipur during election rallies at Langjing Achouba and Hapta Kangjeibung just before formation of the BJP government in the state that BJP would complete works which could not be executed by the then government in 15 years within 15 months if people vote BJP to power.
However, Prime Minister's tall promise turns out to finish the Meetei community in 15 months, Malem Thongam said and questioned as to why a democratic country could not arrange peace talk to end the violence in the state.
Condemning stark silence maintained by the Centre even as the violence rages on for nine months, Malem said that the state government should invite the Prime Minister to visit Manipur within 15 days or else LIMIT Manipur will launch intense forms of agitations in coordination with the people starting from February 16 in Delhi.
He then appealed to Manipur natives residing in Delhi to help the organisation in successful conduct of the stir.
According to Malem Thongam, the responsibility to safeguard the state cannot be left to the village volunteers alone and everyone must extend help and work together till a solution to the present crisis is brought about.
