Court orders ₹1.5 cr compensation

Imphal, January 31 2024:
The court of civil judge (senior division), Imphal West ordered respondents of the Damage Suit (No 4 of 2024) filed by commissioner (water resources) T Ranjit under Section 9 of CrPC to pay compensation amounting to Rs 1.51 crore to the petitioner.
The court, however, summoned respondents R Peichum and four others to appear by February 26 and file objection, if any, on the day.
Respondents of the Damage Suit namely R Peichum and four others had alleged that commissioner Ranjit misused his powers and positions in promoting 21 assistant engineers to executive engineers (EE) on December 27, 2023 without conducting the DPC.
They even made complaints in this regard to the Prime Minister and state vigilance department.
However, T Ranjit filed Damage Suit against R Peichum and four others and demanded compensation.
The order passed by the court of civil judge (senior division), Imphal West K Nirojit on Wednesday, however, directed respondents of the damage suit to make objection, if any, on February 26, 2024 or reply in person before the court on the same day.
Notably, commissioner T Ranjit had also filed a Criminal Case (No 2 of 2024) against R Peichum and four others at the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Imphal West in connection with the allegations levelled against him.
The same court (CJM Imphal West), in its order passed on January 30, mentioned registration of a case under Section 211/500/501/505/34 of 1PC against the five accused persons and summoned them before the court by February 17, 2024 .
