Police act against blocking roads

Imphal, January 31 2024:
Follo-wing yesterday's order issued by Deputy Commissioners of three districts deeming unau-thorized blocking of roads and collection of donations from commuters as puni- shable offences, Thoubal police drove away a group of womenfolk blocking Imphal- Moreh road in Thoubal Athokpam area today.
Notably DC Imphal East, DC Kakching and DC Thoubal had issued orders to stop unauthorized and unlawful blocking of National Highways, State Highways and district roadways in their respective districts and causing inconvenience to the commuters and the public in general.
A team of Thoubal police arrived at the spot upon receiving information about a group of women causing inconvenience to the commu- ters at Thoubal Athokpam.
After speaking with the womenfolk, the police team successfully lifted the road blockade and drove away the group.
However, it has been reported that groups of women flouted the order in different parts of several districts.
According to the order, those found violating the order are liable to be punished under Section 8B of the National Highways Act, 1956; Section 283 of the IPC and Section 133 of the CrPC.
