Skeletal remains found likely to be of Ng Navy

Human skeletal remains, suspected to be that of Ngangom Navy Meitei (29) s/o Sanakhomba of Sugnu Awang Leikai Ward No.2 Mandop Leikai, who went missing during a gunfight between Kuki militants, state forces and village volunteers at Sugnu Nazareth under Sugnu Police Station on May 28 last year, have been recovered from Sugnu Nazareth by Sugnu police on Wednesday.
According to a report, police had been trying to locate the body of Ngangom Navy but to no avail.
However, after a video of a man being decapitated went viral on social media platforms on Tuesday, the Ngangom family identified the victim in the video as Navy.
As a result, police targeted the search in suspected areas.
On Wednesday around 11.10am, the police zeroed in on a spot, where a body was likely to be buried.
At about 2.50 pm, human skeletal remains along with some clothes were dug up from the spot in the presence of the Magistrate concerned and Manipur Police Forensic Science team.
Based on the clothes found on the skeletal remains, Navy's family surmised that the deceased is likely to be him (Navy).
Sugnu police retrieved the remains and deposited them to JNIMS morgue for post mortem examination to be conducted on Thursday.
Mention may be made here that after failing to recover Navy's body since his disappearance on May 28, a "Pangong" tree plank was used, as per Meetei customs, to conduct his final rites on July 30.On Tuesday, a video went viral on social media, confirming the speculations that Navy might have been killed, while also helping in identifying the place where the crime was committed.
After watching the video, Navy's mother Ngangom Ahanbi Leima collapsed and had to be hospitalised.
