Imphal, January 31 2024:
The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (Tangkhul Youth Council) has strongly condemned the "open letter threat" directed towards social activist Ashang Kasar by Kuki-Zo volunteers on January 16 .
Expressing pain and dismay over the open letter which was circulated on social media, a statement issued by Themaso Talla-nao, president, TMNL stated that the purported letter had unnecessarily dragged the name of the Tangkhul Naga tribe into the controversy.
Furthermore, the open letter also warned the social activist of dire consequences "if he is not reprimanded by his Tangkhul brothers", said the statement.
TMNL asserted that in a vibrant democratic society, a constructive and healthy debate on electronic and social media on current issues is a part and parcel of democratic ethos, where people express their opinions freely without any fear and inhibition.
Thus, condemning the open letter, TMNL maintained that the council will not entertain any hate or threats directed towards any Tangkhul Naga individual.
TMNL has urged the Kuki-Zo brethren to accept their reality/identity and withdraw the widely transmitted letter which has gone viral on social media and refrain themselves while taking into consideration the need for peaceful co-existence between the Nagas and the Kuki Zo-Mizo brethren.
