Kakching, January 31 2024:
Under the supervision of Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) and Langsai Thouna, Kakching, a public meeting exclusively for women was held at Kakching Model High School ground on Wednesday and resolved to unite womenfolk of the two neighbouring districts.
During the meeting, speakers denounced the present government stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheme of 'Beti Bachao Beti Parao' is complete failure in the state as the future of girl child is not certain due to the present unrest situation in the state.
If the government wants to save the girl child, then the government should end the conflict and restore peace and normalcy in the state, they demanded.
As the conflict has been spanning for the last nine months, women could not remain silent, they continued, while urging all the women to unite and extend all possible help.
While making it clear that the unity and integrity of Manipur should not be disturbed because of the conflict, they demanded convening of assembly to discuss and end the issue politically.
They exhorted female students to pursue their education properly despite the unrest and further condemned elected representatives for their failure to take their responsibilities properly.
The meeting also adopted several resolutions including unity of all unmarried women of Thoubal and Kakching districts and work together, not to make issues based on emotion and to work under the supervision of guardian (CSO) of the districts.
It also resolved to exert pressure to both state and central government for ending the conflict and to provide free trainings to improve skills and ensure livelihood and earnings.
The meeting was attended by TAKDAL advisor Samurailatpam Tamphamani Devi, Thoubal Amasung Kakching district Apunba Leisabi ad-hoc committee vice chairperson Khundongbam Sophia Chanu, Meira Paibi leaders, and women intellectuals of the two districts among others.
A one minute's silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the two Meetei martyrs who laid down their lives for Manipur.
