Imphal, January 31 2024:
A 22-year-old woman, living in one of the most dangerous places that has come under frequent attacks from Kuki militants, has delivered a healthy baby boy bringing joy amid the turmoil to the family and localities.
Wareppam (ongbi) Oinam Jimina delivered the baby boy yesterday at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital, Porompat.
As her house at Wangoo Chuthek Leikai came under repeated attacks from Kuki militants, Jimina had been staying at a Meira Shang (shed), near Wangoo Chuthek Leikai Primary Health Centre, some distance from her house since the past few days.
Jimina is the wife of Wareppam Hemba, 23 .
Her mother-in-law, Wareppam Roma said Jimina went into labour when Kuki militants launched an intense attack at her village on January 29 .
As her condition worsened requiring immediate medical attention, JNIMS authorities sent an ambulance to fetch Jimina to the hospital in Imphal, Roma said.
The next day, on January 30, Jimina gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, the mother-in-law said, appreciating the doctors and JNIMS authority.
The baby boy was delivered with the hospital bearing the cost of the medicine, she said.
Meanwhile, JNIMS Director L Deben has urged expecting mothers in need of medical attention to contact the hospital for prompt intervention and medical help.
The hospital will assist all individuals who need medical attention because of the present crisis, he said.
