Imphal, January 31 2024:
In a move likely to escalate tension in Moreh, Kuki village volunteers, who have been claiming involvement in recent attacks on state police in the border town, issued a shutdown notice to all shops in the border town.
Directed to the shopkeepers in the Evening Bazaar of Moreh, the notice asked for closure until the withdrawal of Meetei police personnel from the border town.
The notice, issued by the Village Volunteers of Tengnoupal district also said that supply of goods to state security forces should be stopped and accused the state police of looting and torching educational institutions and private properties (which the police authority had recently rejected as unfounded and malicious) .
The notice said that the strict measures are necessary to ensure safety of all individuals while asking all shops to close from February 3 onwards and until further notice.
The Kuki village volunteers also called for cooperation, from all residents, shopkeepers, and members of different communities living in the border town.
