Imphal, October 20 2026:
Condemning the alleged killing of three Meitei men who had gone to collect firewood at Sunurok hills between Khongban Tanghul and Nongshum on Monday by Kuki militants, a sit-in protest was held at Naharup Thongkhong in Imphal East today.
The protest was organised by Kshetrigao Nupi Lamjing Lup.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the deceased.
Protesters raised slogans demanding resignation of leaders who cannot protect lives, action against Kuki terrorists and an end to civilian killings.
Speaking at the protest, Thoudam Priyangka said it is condemnable that three Meiteis who went to collect firewood for livelihood were killed at Khongbal Sunurok hills.
She said while the Chief Minister claims peace has returned, killings continue unabated.
Security is provided when leaders travel, preventing any untoward incident, but civilians are left unprotected, she alleged.
She said the Government has remained silent on the killings of Meiteis and Nagas, including the Tronglaobi incident.
Urging people not to remain silent thinking that it is not their family, she said people should come together for a common cause, otherwise such incidents will happen to every family.
Former Up-Adhyaksha of Imphal East, Kshetri Tamna, who also took part in the protest, said law and order has completely failed in the State.
She said the Government has failed to protect lives and property of the people and leaders who cannot protect them should resign on moral grounds.
Secretary of Kshetrigao Nupi Lamjing Lup, P Anita said leaders who claimed that roads are safe should take responsibility for the Nongshum incident.
