Imphal, October 20 2026:
In the wake of the brutal murder of three innocent civilians at Khongbal Sunurok Uyok hill range, several civil society organisations have urged the Government to let MPA cadres of the Pambei-led UNLF open their camps and guard foothill villages vulnerable to attacks from Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Speaking to media persons on behalf of FOCS, Ningol Club, Manipur People's Front (MPF), Manipur Women Federation (MWF), PALEM, UMO and MPCM at Kabo Leikai today, Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS) secretary general Bumeshwor Ningthoujam vehemently condemned the killing of three innocent civilians at Sunurok Uyok on October 19, 2026 and demanded prompt arrest of all the perpetrators.
He said that all the people who believe in the idea of Manipur and peace co-existence need to stand together and fight such acts of terrorism collectively.
Had the Central and State Governments listened to the Nongshum villagers' cry for protection, the three innocent men would not have lost their lives, Bumeshwor said.
When the Pambei-led UNLF had their camp in the Nongshum area, no such terrorist attack occurred.
Unfortunately, the Central Government and the State Government forcibly shifted the MPA's camp, he said.
As such, the Government of India and the State Government must be held accountable for the Sunurok massacre, he said .
The FOCS secretary general urged the Government to fulfil the people's demand to let the Pambei-led UNLF open their camps at foothill areas and guard villages vulnerable to attacks from Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
He also urged the Government to launch a military crackdown against Kuki terrorists and award the heaviest punishment to all the perpetrators of the Sunurok massacre.
He further appealed to all sections of people not to share posts or comments which may contradict or undermine the idea of Manipur.
On the other hand, a team of FOCS led by its president visited the injured victims of the Sunurok terror attack at Raj Medicity today.
The team extended financial assistance to the injured victims.
Interacting with the visiting FOCS team, the injured victims said that there is an Assam Rifles post not far away from the spot where they came under heavy firing but the AR troops neither intervened nor retaliated in time.
They said that the three fellow villagers would not have lost their lives had the Assam Rifles deployed there taken up adequate security measures.
