Kangpokpi, October 20 2026:
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) on Tuesday called a 24-hour total shutdown across Kangpokpi district, citing persistent insecurity, alleged indiscriminate arrests of Kuki-Zo individuals and the continued failure to ensure justice and rehabilitation for conflict-affected families.
The shutdown will begin at midnight on October 20 and continue until the midnight of October 21, CoTU said in a statement, appealing to the Kuki-Zo people to observe it peacefully and with unity and discipline.
Expressing concern over the arrest of Kuki-Zo individuals in connection with the killing of three Meitei civilians, CoTU alleged that the arrests were being made without first establishing their involvement through a fair and impartial investigation.
The committee said the continued suffering of the Kuki-Zo community, marked by loss of lives, destruction of homes, forced displacement and persistent insecurity, demanded urgent attention and accountability.
It also cited the killing of Paolenmung Thangeo at P Muolding village allegedly by the NSCN-IM as another incident deepening the community's sense of insecurity and anguish.
