The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has appealed to all concerned to ensure safe and unhindered passage for its personnel and essential medical supplies during the 48-hour state-wide general strike called from midnight of October 19.The strike was called following the killing of three civilians in Imphal East district on October 19 .
In a press release, RIMS authority expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation and appealed to maintain peace and restraint while stating it understands public sentiments during this difficult time.
The institute has requested that teaching and non-teaching staff, doctors, paramedical personnel and other essential service providers be allowed safe passage while commuting to and from the institute, stating they are essential for uninterrupted functioning of the hospital and for providing critical medical care.
It also appealed to allow movement of water tankers and other essential supplies required for smooth functioning of the hospital, noting that movement of a water tanker in the Uripok area was obstructed.
RIMS stated it respects the right to peaceful protest but healthcare services must remain accessible to patients, including those requiring emergency and life-saving treatment.
The institute earnestly requested all concerned to refrain from creating disturbance or obstruction to healthcare personnel, ambulances, water tankers and vehicles carrying essential medical supplies and appealed for cooperation, restraint and humanity so that delivery of essential healthcare services is not disrupted.
