Imphal, October 20 2026:
Social activist Wingnaoshang (Ashang) Kasar has announced his intention to contest the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly election slated for 2027 from Phungyar Assembly Constituency.
A blessing ceremony in this regard was held today at Chadong village playground.
The ceremony was attended by village leaders of Chadong along with leaders from Ngarumphung and Ramrei, during which village elders blessed Ashang Kasar for his upcoming electoral battle.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashang Kasar said that corruption and misguided leadership have created a rift between Meitei and Naga communities.
He alleged that politics from outside has further divided the people and that leaders elected with public money have failed to do their duties, leading to lack of development.
He said people are divided in the name of Meitei and Naga when they see development.
What we need to do now is to correct the tangled knot instead of fighting among ourselves, he said.
He stressed the need for public representatives to monitor contractors' works and to bring development funds proportionally.
Stating that many hardships faced in healthcare would be reduced if a RIMS-like hospital is established in the hills, he said the practice of hill people paying large amounts of money to get a signature at the Secretariat could be stopped if MLAs and Ministers are made to stay at district headquarters for certain days.
Ashang Kasar said he is not contesting to introduce schemes or to become a contractor, but to bring a better Manipur in the Assembly.
