Monsang Meet: Liwa Changning, Liwa Sarei emerge football champs

Imphal, January 31 2024: Liwa Changning clinched the men's open football title while Liwa Sarei emerged champions of the women's competition in the 16th Monsang Sports Meet 2024 as the meet concluded at Liwa Sarei Groud, Chandel on Wednesday.

Liwa Changning beat Mon-sang Pantha 3-1 for their men's open football title.

The winning side started strongly with Borningkham opening the scoring just five minutes from kickoff before fellow Besorjit doubled their lead in the 14th minute as Liwa Changning went into the second half leading 2-0.After the interval, Monsang Pantha halved the deficit with a 66th-mihute goal from W Bisworjit.

Liwa Changning restored their two-goal cushion when Konthang converted in the 79th minute and eventually ran out dominant 3-1 winners to seal the championship trophy.

On the other hand, Liwa Sarei handed a 6-0 thrashing to Monsang Pantha in the women's final match.

W Gracemi emerged as the star performer for her team by pumping in six goals.

Gracemi started off with a 4th-minute opener, extended the lead in the 6th minute and completed a hat-trick in the 11th minute before she went on to collect three more goals in the 19th, 28th and 50th minutes.

W Shalomi (14) and Sh Sundary (43) contributed one goal apiece in Liwa's comfortable title triumph.

Sh Delia (48) was the lone scorer for Monsang Pantha.
