Y Laba states stand on 'tapped phone talk'

Imphal, December 19 2023: With an audio clip of former lady police officer Th Brinda going viral on social media for the wrong reason, veteran journalist Yambem Laba has claimed that the telephonic conversation was tapped.

Brinda was heard accusing Arambai Tenggol of burning Meetei houses at Torbung on May 3 in the audio clip which was excerpted from a telephonic conversation with Yambem Laba.

Taking to his Facebook handle, Yambem Laba wrote "My statement on the recent controversy surrounding the Audio Clip leak of a telephonic conversation I had with Ms Thounaojam Brinda on the 3rd of October 2023 .

"It was definitely not me who had recorded and leaked the audio clip.

I do not know as to whether it was my phone or hers which was tapped as both of us have been critical of the State.

But we are not going to remain silent and will unearth the truth and the guilty person exposed" .

Along with the text, Yambem Laba uploaded a short video wherein he said that he didn't leak the audio clip nor recorded the conversation as it is against journalistic ethics. He also said that Brinda had already tendered an apology for the false accusation.

The house of Brinda at Yaiskul Janmasthan was stormed by a group of people from Torbung and Torbung Bangla and some properties were destroyed.
