Commando personnel shoots one to death

Thoubal, December 19 2023:
A 32 year old man was allegedly shot dead by a commando personnel on duty at Leingangpokpi Police Outpost in Jiribam last night at around 8.25 .
The deceased has been identified as Oinam Gandhi (32), s/o Mohon of Bengi Mamang Leikai, Thoubal while the commando personnel is Loitam Arunta (38), a resident of Yairipok Bamon Leikai.
Loitam Arunta is a personnel of 5th Manipur Rifles, Tamenglong attached to Thoubal Commando.
Reportedly, the house of the accused commando personnel at Yairipok Bamon Leikai has been vandalised by the locals of Bengi Mamang Leikai this morning (around 7) after a brief stand-off with the police.
As per the report submitted by the Post Commander of Leingangpokpi Commando Unit, he saw Arunta standing beside the corpse of Gandhi with AK-44 in his hands while tracing for the gunshot sound at around 8.25 pm.
The exact reason behind the killing is not yet known.
Jiribam police have registered a case.
A JAC has been formed in connection with the killing of Gandhi and it resolved to not claim the body until the Government takes up necessary actions.
The JAC also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh through Thoubal DC with a list of demands.
The JAC demanded that the accused commando personnel who murdered Gandhi must be terminated from service immediately and take up legal actions against him and also provide Rs 20 lakh as a compensation and a Government job to the next of kin of the deceased.
Convenor of the JAC Keisham Hemanta claimed that Gandhi went to Leingangpokpi Police Outpost to meet his brother.
