Weavers advised to obtain weavers' card

The State Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela), organised by the Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL), concluded on Tuesday at Thoubal Melaground.
The expo, which commenced on December 6, was sponsored by the Development Commissioner for Handloom and Handicrafts.
The valedictory programme was attended by Weavers Service Centre deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa, MHHDCL general manager (administration) Th Basanta and national awardee Kangujam Medha as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
During the ceremony, Basanta urged the state's weavers to avail the benefits of various welfare schemes, including the cluster development programme.
He highlighted the importance of obtaining the weavers' card and Pehchaan card, and encouraged the weavers to register formally.
Basanta also appealed for enhancement of handloom product quality, mass-scale production and diversification of products such as apparel, cushion covers, pillow covers and curtains.
He also assured the support of cluster designers to the weavers to not only boost income generation but also contribute to improving the socio-economic landscape.
Additionally, Basanta called for value addition to products and recommended the inclusion of wash care instruction tags.
Meanwhile, Priyadarshi elaborated on positive impact of organising such expos on weavers, providing them with information on new market trends and product diversification.
The deputy director also highlighted various schemes aimed at supporting weavers and assured assistance from the ministry.
