Imphal, December 19 2023:
Manipur being the part of India, the Government of India has to bring an end to the violence in Manipur, stated child climate activist Licypriya Kangujam while reminding the centre that Manipur is not the part of any other country.
Licypriya Kangujam visited relief camp opened at Government Dance College, Palace Compound on Tuesday, where she was accorded a warm welcome by the relief camp residents and Peace Committee Wangkhei Kendra.
While interacting with the residents, Licypriya lamented that many innocent children have died in the ongoing violence in Manipur erupted on May 3 while future of many others directly affected by the violence are uncertain.
With tears in her eyes, Licypriya said efforts of both the governments of India and Manipur to bring back normalcy in the state are not satisfactory.
Manipur is part of India and the Government of India must not forget that Manipur is not the part of any other country, she reiterated while demanding that Manipur being part of India the ongoing violence should be brought to an end by the Government of India.
According to Licypriya, she felt deeply hurt and emotional on witnessing suffering of young children affected by the violence and accordingly put efforts from her side to end the violence by meeting global leaders.
However, bringing an end to the violence would not be possible without the support of the people, she said and strongly called for a united effort to end the violence and bring back normalcy in Manipur.
She also stressed the need for all the Meetei people to have courage towards bringing an end to the violence rather than crying for ending the violence.
When the Government of India put no effort to end the violence in the last more than seven months, a young girl has been striving to end the violence and this question must be put to the Government of India, she said.
Earlier, Licypriya Kangujam was accorded a warm reception when she visited the relief camp.
Residents of the relief camp and well-wishers from different parts of the state presented her with gifts and showered her with flowers.
Later, she interacted with the camp residents.
