"Relief Play" staged to bring laughter to conflict survivors

With the goal of bringing laughter into the lives of conflict survivors, the Social Welfare Department staged a production of "Relief Play" across three relief camps today on a trial basis.
The play was staged at Moirang College Relief Camp, Manipur Trade and Expo Centre Relief Camp, Lamboikhongnangkhong and Ideal Girls College, Akampat.
AS Robinson, Deputy Director (Disability Cell), Social Welfare Department stated that the play was staged not only to bring joy but also to spread awareness about the various schemes and projects undertaken by the State Government for the welfare of differently abled persons among others.

If the play is successful, it will be performed across various other relief centres in the State, he added.
Tomorrow, the play will be staged at Keirak Sanatombi High School and Kodompokpi Sports Complex Relief Camp in Kakching and Thoubal districts respectively.
Notable artists who performed in the Relief Play include Sougrakpam Hemanta alias Tolhan, Th Joseph, Happy Rajen and Govindas.
On top of eliciting peals of laughter from the crowd, the renowned comedians also spread awareness about how to avail the benefits provided under various schemes by the Department, how to aid the elderly who have been neglected by their family members and so on.
L Dhaneshwar, Deputy Commissioner, Social Welfare Department; Waikhom Birahari, Commissioner, Persons With Disabilities; Child Protection Officer Y Indramani and officials of the Social Welfare Department were also present on the occasion.
