Fitting salute paid to slain folks

Imphal, June 14 2023: The last rites of eight of the nine civilian volunteers who were killed by well armed Kuki militants at Khamenlok area last night were held today at their respective localities after giving them an honorific of Athouba Mapari (brave sons).

Mortal remains of the eight deceased were claimed by their respective families after autopsies at JNIMS morgue.

Among the deceased, Laishram Abung alias Methoi (37) of Kangla Sangomsang Awang Leikai was identified later in the evening and as such his post mortem will be conducted tomorrow.

The last rites of the eight persons were performed at their respective places after taking out a procession on different routes in Imphal area which was participated by hundreds of people.

After the procession, the deceased were taken to their respective places for the last rites by raising different slogans such as "Long Live Manipur", "Abrogate SoO pact" etc.

People in large number came out from their homes to pay their homage to the slain civilian volunteers.

It is reported that the last rites of Laishram Abung will be carried out after taking out a similar procession.
