Imphal, October 06 2026:
The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has categorically stated that peace will return to Manipur only after the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated and illegal immigrants are identified.
A public campaign on the demand of updating the NRC was held today at Siangai Namdai Chiru village, Kangpokpi district under the aegis of the Naga Coordinating Committee (Western Foothills Manipur).
Speaking at the public meeting, JFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba emphasised on the need to sustain the ongoing movement until the census operations are deferred in totality and the NRC is updated with 1951 as the base year.

With more and more indigenous communities coming out in support of the movement, the State Government has taken up some steps but these steps are not yet satisfactory to the JFD and the people of Manipur, he said.
Jeetendra said that the JFD is committed to carrying on the movement until the indigenous people's collective demand is achieved comprehensively.
Nonetheless, in view of the steps taken up by the State Government and its request to give some time, the JFD, after consulting with community leaders, decided to suspend intense agitation temporarily, he said.
However, public campaigns and peaceful protests will go on.
JFD is always prepared to launch intense modes of agitation any time in case the State Government fails to act in line with the people's pulse and will, Jeetendra said.
The campaign meeting was attended by a large number of people belonging to Chiru, Rongmei, Kom and Aimol communities.
Other speakers who addressed the gathering said that the onus of getting the NRC updated cannot be put on the Meiteis alone.
They said that Naga communities must support the movement with heart and soul, and see that all illegal immigrants are driven out from Manipur.
