AR clarifies on Heirok incident

With regard to the news report published in this daily headlined "Heirok denizens push back AR, storm camp", Assam Rifles has clarified that the allegations levelled on its troopers are baseless.
According to PRO IGAR (S), in the present internal security situation, a number of inputs of miscreant trying to create unrest in public by resorting to bring have been received.
A similar input was received by 37 Assam Rifles at Phundrei that some mis creants are trying to enter Meitei village at Heirok and target the community.
Subsequently, a security column was launched from Phundrei to verify the input and reassure the local populace of safety being provided by Assam Rifles.
Pointing out that around 11:30 am, when the security column of 37 Assam Rifles was approaching Heirok, some inimical elements hiding in the field tried to surround the security column, the PRO stated that Assam Rifles showed utmost restraint and reasoned with local population about the safety and assistance intention of Assam Rifles.
After explaining the situation to the local population and reassuring them of security forces intention, the party moved back to Phundrei without any attempt of garrison being stormed as reported by the newspaper, the PRO added.
Informing that Assam Rifles continued to maintain healthy relationship with local population in this challenging time, the PRO add ed that 37 Assam Rifles, in particular has successfully evacuated more than 2000 people from violence affected areas of Sugnu and Serou.
