Senapati, June 14 2023:
With the sky opening up, around 44 Poumai villages have been cut off since June 12 due to an increase in the level of water in Barak River.
The increase in water level has cut off the alternate route passing through the Barak River at Koide Biisho and this has hampered the movement of commuters to the other side of the river.
The 44 affected villages include 6 Koide villages, 3 Purul villages, 6 Oinam Union villages, 6 Poumai villages, 10 Khongdei Circle villages, 3 Phaibung villages, 5 Thingba villages and 4 Paomata villages.
On spot inspection of the site, it was found that apartment pillars had been constructed for the installation of a Bailey bridge.
However, materials for the bridge are yet to arrive at the spot.
According to reliable sources, the materials for the bridge will be brought from outside the State.
It may be noted that earlier local MLA Kumo Sha had personally visited the site and appealed for quick restoration of the bridge before the onset of monsoon.
A team from the Works Department headed by the Chief Engineer had also reportedly inspected the site on April 11 and assured quick restoration of the bridge before the arrival of monsoon.
In this regard, the Maram-Phaibung Road Development Association has also lamented the non-completion of the bridge while adding that it has inconvenienced the economic life of the public.
The Association has cautioned that public outcry against the non-completion of the said Bailey bridge may be in the cards if the concerned authority does not address the issue.
Thus, it has further sought the attention of the concerned authority to look into the problems faced by the people of the region at the earliest possible.
