MLAs vow to abide by people's sentiments

Stating that MLAs are elected by the people, Hi-yanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam has stated that the MLAs will always stand and work for the welfare of people and not do anything that is not in line with the people's wishes.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday morning after spending the previous night at Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel with the locals guarding the area, Dr Radheshyam appreciated the efforts taken up by the people especially the womenfolk for the state.
He then reiterated the stand of the MLAs of guarding the territorial and administrative integrity of Manipur, to the point of giving up their seats and being at the forefront of the struggle to save Mani pur.
He continued that as the home/security roles of the state government have been taken over by the centre, it is as if the hands of the chief minister have been tied up.
Nonetheless, the state gov ernment is determined to honour the wishes of the people, he reiterated.
Recalling request made by an officer of IGAR (South) to talk with local populace to allow the movement of As sam Rifles in the area while he was discussing the prevailing situation with Sugnu MLA K Ranjit, Wabagai MLA Dr Ush-am Deben and Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar at his quarters a few days ago, Radheshyam said he truthful ly informed the officer that the people have a developed a mistrust of AR and all four MLAs cannot speak for them, for they (MLAs) cannot work against the sentiments of the people.
The actions of AR have hurt the sentiments of the people, who are now in highly emotional.
If the AR wants smooth movement, they should first try to win back the trust of the people and to.
let the BSF and the state forces guard the people at present, he conveyed.
Dr Radheshyam then in formed that the MLAs will soon leave for Delhi to urge for an immediate solution to the crisis, adding that the MLAs will work their level best to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Later, the MLA extended a monetary assistance of Rs 25,000 to the volunteers at Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel and Rs 10,000 each to the relief camps opened at Hiyanglam Girls Junior High School, Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai Lotus Club Community Hall and Elangkhanpokpi Mayai Leikai Mandop.
Meanwhile, MLA K Ranjit, who assessed the relief camps opened at Heirok Higher Secondary school with Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam on Wednesday, informed that a Battalion of either Manipur Rifles or India Reserve Battalion will be opened at Serou Lamkhai with to restore peace and normalcy in Serou, Sugnu and Napat areas.
The MLA further informed that the Governor has already approved the establishment of a MR/IRB Battalion in Serou Lamkhai.
He continued that after the "Peace Committee Sugnu A/C adjoining Area of Chandel, Churachandpur and Bishnupur District", there was no violence in the area.
On May, our Kuki brothers had handed over around 90 Meetei people working at D Lhongkhai, T Seljang and Singhao villages safely to the Committee.
However, acknowledging the unpredictability of the violence, security forces were deployed in Serou and Sugnu areas.
This move later on helped save lives and lower the number of Meetei/Meitei casualties when Kuki militants attacked Serou on May 28 .
MLA K Ranjit then appealed to the people of Sugnu who are staying in various relief camps to return to their homes in Serou, Sugnu and Napat areas, adding that security forces have driven away the Kuki militants and the situation is fully under control.
There are no more sounds of guns being fired and security forces are guarding the area strictly.
Although it may take time to rebuild the houses which have been burnt down and lives to return to normal, the government has already announced related relief packages.
Stating that there was some failure on part of the CM in resolving the crisis, Ranjit further said that the CM was wrong not to convene an all-political party meet considering the loss of lives and property and prolonging the violence for more than 40 days.
He then charged the 10 Kuki MLAs for their lack of knowledge of the Constitution, while alleging that since they (Kuki MLAs) won the polls with the help of insurgents, they are bound to speak the words of the insurgents.
The MLA then appreciated MLA Thokchom Radhehyam for his relief works and also the security forces for protecting the lives of around 3000 Serou denizens.
Later, he extended a monetary aid of Rs 50,000 to Heirok Higher Secondary School Relief Centre.
