Imphal, June 14 2023:
Expressing suspicion of a hidden agenda of the Centre and Kuki militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, United Political and Social Forum (UPSF) has questioned the nexus between Centre and Kuki militants.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, UPSF media coordinator Mutum Robindro said that since the violence broke out from May 3 in Churachandpur district, armed Kuki militants have been attacking and burning Meetei villages and launching counter offence, which left over 100 dead and several hundreds injured while rendering tens of thousands homeless.
Even after 41 days of the violence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not said a single word till date.
The public are now suspicious of a hidden agenda hatched by the Centre and the Kuki militants under SoO agreement behind the ongoing crisis in the state.
With media reports citing nexus between the Central government and Kuki militants, and the latter helping BJP in elections over the year, the picture is getting clearer now, he said.
Even though the Central government deployed thousands of central security forces, people of Manipur are not satisfied with their conduct and intervention, especially the Assam Rifles.
RAF, which is supposed to control mob and riots, are now indulging in vandalism of vehicles and houses, which is a serious issue, he said while demanding withdrawal of RAF and Assam Rifles from the state.
Some mere relief package and compensation will not bring back the loss lives, looted, damaged and burned houses, Robindro maintained and demanded the government to take up immediate measures to control the violence and restore peace and normalcy.
He also demanded the government to withdraw from the SoO agreement with Kuki militants and take up appropriate actions against the militants for violating SoO ground rules.
