Imphal, June 14 2023:
With reference to the road blocks set up by Meira Paibi members, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Nando Luwang appealed to the people of the state to exercise maximum restrain while carrying out such road blocks so that no unwanted incidents arise.
Responding to the media on the sidelines of Protest Day observance organised by AMUCO on Wednesday, Nando said that the road block protest of Meira Paibi is a form of agitation to register their demands to the government for controlling the violence and restoring peace and normalcy.
Amid the gunfights in the foothills, these protests in the plains also hold significance, he said.
Nando, however, opined that the situa tion is almost normal in the valley area, it is necessary for the Meira Paibi members to exercise caution so that blocking the roads does not cause inconveniences to the common people as complained from certain quarters.
On the other hand, a resident of Nongsum village, adjacent to Khamenlok, told The People's Chronicle that road blocks set up by local Meira Paibi groups by rolling out iron pipes, piling boulders and scraps are creating problems in evacuating people injured in gunfights and those in need of medical emergency to hospital.
The villager appealed to the people of the state to understand the core issue and refrain from creating hurdles to such emergency situation.
The villager also drew attention of the Meira Paibi organisations of different localities to visit affected villages in the foothills to encourage them.
