Contain Kuki militants to avert civil war: PDCC

Peace and Develop ment Coordinating Committee (PDCC) president Lei-mapokpam Joy has warned that if the central and state governments fail to control the violence perpetrated by Kuki militants in Manipur, it would be inviting a civil war in the state.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, L Joy expressed bewilderment over the cen tral forces' alleged instruction to village authorities in Khundrakpam AC to form a peace committee and sign an agreement for amicable solution amid continuation of violence in the state.
He said that time has not come for an amicable solution when Kuki militants are vitiating the communal tension, while questioning how are people supposed to return to their villages amid the tension.
He continued that during the violence, many houses were set on fire in Ekou, Yengkhuman, Leitanpokpi and Dolaithabi area of Khundrakpam area, three people have lost their lives and many others left injured.
As such, he urged for opening an outpost in the villages and opening the AR post in Dolaithabi to Ekou.
If the government fails accord seriousness to the situation, the ongoing crisis could very well turn into a civil war, he warned.
Joy said that PDCC had been working with representatives
of Saikul AC to solve various issues.
However, it has been unable to contact the Saikul members due to the violence.
He then appealed to all CSOs of the state to work together to restore peace, while urging the government to take action which are in line with the people's wishes.
PDCC secretary Nongthombam Boby extended deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who died in the Khamenlok incident.
He accused Kuki terrorists of inciting the violence and added the Meitei had to retaliate for their own safety.
As such, he urged the government to take control of the Kuki militants at the earliest, adding that prolonging the violence will only lead to civil war.
