AMKIL backs Sangai Fest boycott call

Imphal, October 10 2026: Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup (AMKIL) has urged the Government and its relevant departments not to organise the Manipur Sangai Festival this year.

The prevailing environment in the State due tension between communities is not conducive for organising the festival, it said in a statement.

Thousands of people who have been displaced by the conflict which erupted in May 2023 are still languishing in relief camps.

The festival should not be organised until the IDPs are allowed to return to their homes and there is free movement of people in the entire State, AMKIL said.

It also urged tent houses, artistes, musical bands and organisations concerned to refrain from being a part of the festival.

The Lup said it fully endorses COCOMI's boycott call.
