'Relief Play' staged at relief camps

With an aim to create awareness about various benefits through the Social Welfare Department for the differently abled persons, showcasing of 'relief play' by comedians commenced at three relief camps, Tuesday.
The 'relief play' which was organised on a trial basis was conducted at Moirang college relief camp in Bishnupur; Manipur Trade and Expo Centre Lamboi Khongnangkhong relief camp in Imphal West; and Ideal Girls' College, Akampat relief camp in Imphal East.
Speaking to reporters in this regard, Social Welfare deputy director (Disability Cell) AS Robinson acknowledged that the internally displaced persons taking shelter in various relief camps across the state are suffering from both physical and mental issues.
Therefore, with an aim to mitigate their grievances to some extent and create awareness on the various benefits provided by the social welfare department for the physically challenged people and facilitate access benefits, the 'relief play' has been conducted on a trial basis.
He also informed that the initiative would be further extended to other relief centres if the pilot project turns out to be a success.
The 'relief play' staged on Tuesday will also be conducted at the relief camps opened at Keirak Sanatombi High School in Kakching and Kodompokpi Sports Complex in Thoubal on Wednesday.
The 'relief play' has popular comedians Sougrakpam Hemanta alias Tolhan, Th Joseph, Happy Rajen and Govindas as the main protagonists.
The function was attended by Social Welfare deputy commissioner L Dhaneshwar, Persons With Disabilities commissioner Y Birahari, Imphal West District Child Protection Officer Y Indra-mani and district officers of Social Welfare department.
