AMUCO accuses Centre of plotting Manipur's division

Imphal, June 14 2023: While reiterating its stand to uphold unity and integrity of Manipur, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) expressed concern over the Central government 's alleged support to those attempting to divide Manipur by playing communal politics.

In a statement, AMUCO urged the Central government to abandon such ill-intentioned policies if it wishes to maintain the trust of the state's people.

On Wednesday, AMUCO organised the 22nd Pro test Day observance at the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall to protest the divisive policies of the Government of India.

During the event, AMUCO President Ph Nando Luwang recalled the public uprising in the state in 2001 triggered by a clause, "without territorial limit," in the ceasefire agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM.

Since then, AMUCO has been observing June 14, the day the ceasefire agreement was signed in Bangkok, as Protest Day against the Government of India's divisive policies.

Nando emphasised that the June 18 Uprising and the Protest Day observance aim to protect the territorial integrity of the state and oppose any efforts to establish separate administration based on ethnic lines.

Nando further criticised the government of India for seemingly abetting ethnic armed movements in Manipur, which seek to divide the state along ethnic lines.

He viewed this as an example of communal politics and contended that allowing such divisive movements to thrive is leading to various forms of violence, which AMUCO has consistently resisting.

Throughout the year, poli cies of the government of India have been posing threats to the state's integrity by favouring one community over another.

The ongoing crisis in Manipur since May 3 is a consequence of the government of India's communal politics.

Resolving the crisis and restoring peace in a few days appears to be an elusive goal given the Central government's involvement in the situation.

In the midst of this situation, the Government of India continues its communal politics by convening an exclusive meeting with MLAs from another community.

However, AMUCO and the people of Manipur remain resolute in their opposition to any attempts to disintegrate the state and are determined to counter such efforts.

President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Longjam Memchoubi was also present at the observance as one of the dais members, among others.

AMUCO along with local clubs and meira paibi groups organised meetings at different locations on Tuesday to deliberate on different agendas including 'No separate administration in Manipur', 'Flush out Kuki terrorists from Manipur' and 'Stop playing communal card' among others.

In a release, AMUCO informed that the meetings were held at Salungpham Kang Yambem Mayai Leikai community hall, Waithou Kei-thel, Babu Keithel, Thoubal Haokha, Thoubal Wangma-taba, Khangabok New Keithel and Samaram Lamkhai.

Advisors and executives of AMUCO, COHR, AMAWOVA, AMESCO, Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur and YOFFS took part at the meetings and spoke on different agendas, it added.
