335 anti-rabies vaccination camps conducted till date, says Dr RK Khogendrajit

In the wake of four people losing their lives after being bitten by rabid dogs recently, the Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandly Services Manipur have conducted 335 anti-rabies vaccination camps and inoculated 35,905 cats and dogs in March 2024, said Dr RK Khogendrajit, Director, Veterinary and AH Services.
Addressing a press briefing at Veterinary and AH Services office at Sanjenthong today, Dr RK Khogendrajit stated that the anti-rabies vaccination camps were organised in collaboration with various civil society organisations, clubs etc and altogether 34,042 dogs and 1863 cats were vaccinated free of cost.
The vaccination camps were conducted at 66 localities in Imphal West district, 34 localities in Imphal East, 4 in Jiribam, 98 in Bishnupur, 39 in Thoubal, 15 in Kakching, 11 in Chandel, 3 in Tengnoupal, 7 in Senapati, 11 in Kangpokpi, 8 in Ukhrul, 13 in Kamjong, 8 in Churachandpur and 11 in Noney.
Stating that the vaccination camps were successfully conducted under the supervision of Veterinary and AH Services Minister Khashim Vashum and Michael Achom, Secretary, Veterinary and AH Services, Dr RK Khogendrajit further shared that free vaccination camps will be launched in April to protect cattle, swines, cats and dogs etc from various diseases.
He added that vaccination camps for Foot and Mouth disease, Black Quarter and Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (BQ & HS) for cattle and Classical Swine Fever for pigs have already been launched in numerous areas and will continue in the coming days.
In addition, Dr RK Khogendrajit said that veterinary doctors have been assigned to work in nightshift at the State Veterinary Hospital, Sanjenthong for the benefit of farmers rearing cattle, pigs etc.
Notably, he pointed out that efforts are underway to make the Directorate the first in the North East to be equipped with a hospital management system.
The Veterinary & AH Services Director also appealed to farmers to insure their cattle, pigs and other domesticated animals to avoid large monetary losses if these animals succumb to outbreak of diseases.
