YMDO spikers win Biramani tourney

YMDO, Heirangoithong emerged champions of the 17th Karam Biramani Singh Memorial Invitation Men's Open Volleyball Tournament, 2022 by defeating MRC, Mairenkhong in the final match played on Tuesday.
YMDO outclassed MRC by 3-0 set margin (27/25, 25/16 and 25/21) and lifted the winners' trophy and cash prize of Rs 70,000 while MRC had to content with the runners-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000 .
The trophy and cash prizes of the tournament organised under the aegis of All Manipur Volleyball Association were donated by Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam in memory of his father Biramani and altogether eight teams competed for the trophy from March 30 .
In her brief speech as chief guest of the closing ceremony, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Kebi noted that volleyball used to be very popular in the state around 50 years back but it seems to have lost its popularity for some time now.
She also stressed the need to revive popularity of the game in Manipur and assured of extending all possible help from her side in promoting volleyball.
Meanwhile, tournament promoter MLA Karam Shyam said that the tournament was organised with the main objective to attract youth to sports and games rather than taking drugs and intoxicants.
