Imphal, April 05 2022:
A sit-in-protest was staged today at Lilong Chajing in connection with the death of one Pukhrihongbam (o) Wahengbam Jessica alias Maimu Devi w/o Pukhrihongbam Dineswar alias Naoba.
She was found hanging in the residence of her husband at Samram Mamang Leikai on April 3 'in suspicious manner', as alleged by the JAC formed in relation to her death.
The JAC also submitted a memorandum containing four demands to the Chief Minister today.
Speaking to media persons, members of JAC Against the killing of Srimati Pukhrihongbam (o) Wahengbam Ningol Jessica alias Maimu as well as the deceased's family members accused Pukhrihongbam Dineswar and his family of pre-planning the alleged murder.
They further claimed that Jessica was mistreated by her in-laws to the point where Pukhrihongbam Dineswar had dropped her and her two children at her parental home at Lilong Chajing on February 21 .
Following this, Pukhrihongbam Dineswar completely neglected his wife and children aside from the few times when he gave them a little bit of money, they added.
The family members of Jessica continued to say that Pukhrihongbam Dineswar had shown up at their residence on April 1 and forcibly taken away Jessica and their two children with the reasoning that they will celebrate Cheiraoba together at his home at Saram Mamang Leikai.
Shortly after this incident, on April 3, they were informed by the police of Jesicca's demise.
She had been found hanging in the kitchen.
JAC convener M Joy-kumar raised questions on why the family of Jessica were informed of the unfortunate incident by the police, not by her husband's family.
Further, he alleged that they had been informed that Jesicca had hung herself with a "Moreh phee" (dupatta) but claimed that there were clear signs the deceased was strangled with some sort of "clutch wire" .
As such, he concluded that the death had been pre-planned.
M Joykumar also shared that members of the JAC along with Meira Paibis of Lilong Chajing had sat down with MLA Karam Shyam of Langthabal AC and Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the CM's Secretariat today at around 2 pm in connection with the death of Jessica where the aforementioned memorandum was also submitted.
Referring to their demands, he stated that the family will not take the dead body of W Jessica until justice is delivered, nor will the JAC suspend their agitation until the perpetrators have been apprehended.
Further they also demanded that a post-mortem examination be carried out to check if there was sexual assault or any other foul play.
During the meeting with JAC members and Meira Paibis, the CM reportedly assured that justice would be delivered within two days, he added.
Lastly, M Joykumar shared that some members of Pukhrihongbam Dineswar's family had been rounded up by police.
