Measles like disease infects children in Kamjong

At least 13 children have been infected with a measles type like at Tangkhul Hundung village in Kamjong district.
In a telephonic conversation with T Hundung village elder Ningatei Rimai, more than 13 children below 5 years have been infected with an unknown measles like disease since the last week of March.
According to him, children infected by the disease develop itchy red rash but don't have fever or high body temperature.
Ningatei said that the hands and legs of his grandson R Rimai started swelling on April 1 .
"At first, we thought it was an allergy but the red rash started spreading to other parts of the body gradually," he said and added they have been applying pharmaceutical lotion as an immediate treatment to the body parts with the rash.
The condition of R Rimai is recovering, he said.
Further, Ningatei informed that the unknown disease has also infected many other children of the locality and urged the Health Department to control the supposed contagious disease from spreading at earliest.
Notably, the nearest health centre of Tangkhul Hundung village is situated some 30 kms away from the village at Kasom.
