Imphal, April 05 2022:
Joint Action Committee of NH-2 Expansion Affected Land Owners (Package 5A & 5B of NH-2 Senapati to Imphal) has threatened to call a 48-hour general strike from 6 am of April 9 along the stretch of NH-2 from Nilakuthi to Kanglatongbi if the government does not honour its demands.
In a release, JAC president M Ibomcha Singh stated that a meeting of the Committee formed by affected land owners from eight villages of Nilakuthi, Mantrileikai, Khonghampat, Pheidinga, Tendongyan, Maharabi, Sekmai and Kanglatongbi was held on March 30.The meeting participants expressed disappointment over alleged dilly-dallying by the government on their demands including increasing the compensation amount for affected land owners since April 2021, despite several meetings and assurances from the government.
The JAC cautioned that unless the government fulfils their demands of expediting the process for appointment of arbitrator, conduct resurvey by the PWD, issue the list for inclusion of land owners who have been left out, etc, at the earliest then they will impose a 48-hour general strike in areas under their jurisdiction.
The responsibility for any unwanted incident that may happen during the strike should be borne by the government.
If the government still continues to ignore their demands even after calling the general strike, then the JAC will ban all NH-2 expansion activities, it further warned.
