Two held with drugs

Imphal, April 05 2022:
A team of Special Commando Unit Khabeisoi and Porompat Police arrested two individuals in possession of opium (Kani) from different locations yesterday evening.
At around 6 pm yesterday, a team of Special Commando Unit, Khabeisoi led by L Bebekananda, OC, Special Commando Unit Khabeisoi and acting under the supervision of Th Krishnatombi, SP in-charge, Special Commando Unit Khabesoi, arrested one Thangminleri Baite (34) s/o Khaipao Baite of Lamlai Chingphei during a normal frisking and checking exercise at Lamlai Chingphei near Presbyterian Church along Imphal-Ukhrul road.
He was arrested with a black polythene bag which had nine plastic packets containing opium and Rs 73,500 in cash.
The recovered opium was found to weigh 9 kilograms approximately.
The arrested person was handed over to Lamphel Police Station after observing necessary formalities along with the seized items.
In another case, a team of Porompat Police detained a suspicious person who was riding a Honda Pleasure while conducting mobile frisking and checking in and around Khurai Puthiba Leikai near Khurai Puthiba Lampak at about 6:30 pm yesterday.
On spot verification, the detained person was identified as Nehmingou Kipgen, (36) s/o Sonial of Pangjang Tehsil, Sadar Hills, East Saikul.
Upon checking the vehicle, a polythene bag containing one plastic packet of opium was recovered.
On further interrogation, Nehmingou Kipgen disclosed that he was a drug smuggler and he had bought one packet of opium from one Hesei of Churachandpur yesterday morning to sell the same packet at Saikul.
The recovered opium was found to weigh approximately 500 grams.
As such, Nehmingou Kipgen was arrested on the spot at 7:30 pm and the recovered opium was seized at 7:40 pm by observing formalities for further necessary legal action.
