Farmers' bodies express concern

Ideal Farmers' Progressive Committee and Nongchup Imphal Loumee-Sinmi Chaokhat Thourang Lup have expressed concern over the Directorate of Agriculture's order that urea fertilisers will be provided to farmers on the basis of Soil Health Card (SHC) .
The two farmers' bodies in separate press releases expressed that the initiative to be taken up to test the fertility of the soil is a good step however such an step will be a lengthy and would not be completed before the upcoming Kharif season.
They maintained that no proper rules and regulation has been laid down regarding the Agriculture Directorate's order whether the testing of the soil will be done by the officials of the departments concerned or by the farmers themselves.
Expressing belief that such ah order has been issued to ward off the pressure from the farmers which may arise due to shortage of fertilizers, the farmers' bodies appealed to the Agriculture Directorate to issue a clarification regarding the matter and to avoid any possible fertilizer shortage crisis acknowledging the difficulties faced by the farmers.
