Governor hails Licypriya

Governor La Ganesan has lauded 10 years old climate activist Licypriya Kangujam today for her fight against climate change.
She met the Governor at Raj Bhawan as a part of her efforts to make climate education mandatory in the school curriculum.
She highlighted various environmental issues and also discussed strategy to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making India's net zero carbon emission by 2070.The Governor honoured Licypriya with a traditional 'Zhou' shawl.
He told Licypriya to go in line with the Government with their various initiatives to mitigate climate change and also to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Licypriya informed the Governor that Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi have started a process to include climate education in their respective State's school syllabus to engage young people specially school going children in the fight against climate change from grassroots.
Talking to the media after meeting the Governor, Licypriya stated that education is an essential factor in the ever more urgent global fight against climate change.
Licypriya further said that it is important to make progress in areas such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and formulating effective Government policies and provide education and training to raise awareness to a broader audience.
"We need to talk about global warming, greenhouse gases, renewable energy, carbon footprint, deforestation, recycling, green jobs, green taxes, water footprint, sustainable food, etc.
We need a culture of caring for the environment," she added.
To a query, she stated that major impacts of climate change in Manipur are flood, drought, heat waves, rising temperature, water scarcity, forest wildfire, etc.
She also maintained that only a few people understand the root cause of the problem and most children aren't even aware of the words "climate change," she added.
It can be noted that Licypriya addressed the world leaders at the United Nations Climate Conference 2019 (COP25) in Madrid, Spain urging them to take immediate climate action.
She is one of the youngest climate and environmental activists globally.
Licypriya has been campaigning for climate action in India since 2018 .
